MIAF 2024 Awards: Poland’s ‘Lack’ Takes Top Prize
The Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF) 2024 concluded on May 14, celebrating a diverse array of animated films from around the world. This year’s competition was particularly fierce, with judges facing the daunting task of selecting winners from a pool of exceptional entries.
After an extended deliberation, the highest honor of the festival, Best Of The Fest, was awarded to "Lack" by Paweł Prewencki from Poland. This film stood out for its innovative storytelling and artistic excellence, captivating both the audience and the judges.
In the national categories, "My Jumper, It Roars!" by Isabella Spagnolo was awarded Best Australian film. This piece was praised for its unique narrative and vibrant animation style, reflecting the dynamic creativity of the Australian animation scene.
The Best Australian Student award went to "Shoot Me In The Grocery Line," a collaborative effort by Yunlin Bai and Tori Huynh. This student film impressed the judges with its compelling storyline and sophisticated animation techniques, showcasing the promising talent emerging from Australian animation schools.
