Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF) brings contemporary animation, historical programmes and retrospectives to Melbourne. Established in 2001 and organised by Melbourne Animation Posse, it combines international competitions, Australian showcases, student films, themed screenings and filmmaker conversations. The festival treats animation as an art form, with screenings at Treasury Theatre in Melbourne and The Backlot Studios in South Melbourne. Its dedicated International Student Animation Festival pairs screenings with discussions about emerging animation.
