The 9th Book Adaptation Rights Market, part of the Venice Production Bridge, will take place at the Excelsior Hotel, Lido di Venezia, from August 30 to September 1, during the 81st Venice International Film Festival. Thirty international publishers and three from specific regional focuses will participate, fostering connections with producers through one-on-one meetings. The event will highlight crime and thriller genres and provide a comprehensive catalogue of titles available for adaptation.

The 9th edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market will be held in-person from August 30 to September 1, 2024, at the Excelsior Hotel on the Lido di Venezia. This event, organized as part of the Venice Production Bridge, coincides with the 81st Venice International Film Festival, running from August 28 to September 7, 2024.

Following a call for participation launched on January 15, 2024, the Book Adaptation Rights Market has selected 30 international publishing houses and literary agencies. Additionally, three agencies will participate under the VPB Focuses: one within the Focus on Luxembourg Wallonia-Brussels, supported by Film Fund Luxembourg and Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel, and two within the Focus on Japan, supported by JETRO.

These participants will have a dedicated space to meet with producers registered for the Venice International Film Festival. The one-on-one meetings aim to foster lasting relationships and facilitate deals for the adaptation of various literary works, including novels, dramas, children's literature, short stories, comics, graphic novels, essays, and biographies.

A distinctive feature of the Book Adaptation Rights Market is its approach, allowing publishers to propose their entire catalogues for film adaptation, as opposed to focusing on a single book. This broadens the opportunities for adaptations and attracts more producers looking for diverse intellectual properties (IP).

A brochure detailing the publishers and literary agents, along with their new titles and full catalogues, will be distributed to all registered producers in advance. This year, the VPB Focus will spotlight Luxembourg & Wallonia-Brussels and Japan, offering a diverse array of literary works from these regions.

The new brochure, which includes comprehensive details about the invited publishers and literary agents for the 2024 edition, will be available soon on the Venice Production Bridge website under the section “VPB Brochures Downloads” at www.veniceproductionbridge.org.
