Venice 2024: Paola Comencini Honored with Campari Passion for Film Award
Paola Comencini, an acclaimed Italian production designer, will be awarded the Campari Passion for Film Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The ceremony will take place on September 6, 2024, at 9:30 pm in the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema), preceding the Out of Competition screening of "Il tempo che ci vuole," directed by Francesca Comencini.
The Campari Passion for Film Award, established six years ago at the Venice Film Festival, recognizes the significant contributions of key collaborators in cinema, beyond the director. This year’s award celebrates Paola Comencini’s outstanding work in production design, highlighting her unique artistic sensibility and innovative approach to creating cinematic environments.
Alberto Barbera, Director of the Venice Film Festival, praised Comencini’s career: “Paola Comencini has demonstrated exceptional skill in capturing the essence of various eras and characters through her production designs. Her ability to enhance both interior and exterior spaces with great rigor and creativity has made her one of the finest production designers in the industry. Her work spans a diverse range of genres and directors, including collaborations with her father Luigi Comencini and notable Italian filmmakers.”
Comencini’s extensive career includes renowned projects such as "Romanzo criminale," for which she won the David di Donatello Award in 2006, and recent works like "C’è ancora domani" (2023) and "Il tempo che ci vuole" (2024). Her work on "Il tempo che ci vuole," featuring a narrative about the passage of time and personal redemption, will be highlighted at the festival, showcasing her ability to create emotionally resonant and visually compelling environments.
