IFFR and V2_ Lab Launch Hybrid Residency for Media Artists and Filmmakers
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, have announced an exciting open call for a hybrid residency program. This unique initiative is designed to foster creativity and transformation at the intersection of filmmaking and media arts.
From November 2024 to February 2025, the selected artist(s) will have the opportunity to experiment, grow, and showcase their work in an exhibition at V2_ during the 54th edition of IFFR in 2025. The residency will be a hybrid experience, with remote check-ins during the months of November and December, followed by an in-person residency in Rotterdam from mid-January to the end of the festival.
"This is an incredible opportunity for media artists and filmmakers to step outside their comfort zones and explore new creative possibilities," said Vanja Kaludjercic, Festival Director of IFFR. "By bridging the worlds of film and media arts, we hope to uncover groundbreaking work that transcends formal boundaries and captivates diverse audiences."
Florian Weigl, Curator at V2_, echoed the sentiment, "We're thrilled to collaborate with IFFR on this initiative. It aligns perfectly with V2_'s mission to create a context where the social impact of technology is explored through critical dialogue, artistic reflection, and practice-oriented research."
The selected artist(s) will receive a budget of €16,500 to cover fees, travel, accommodation, production, and subsistence. In addition to the exhibition at V2_ during IFFR 2025, the artist(s) will also receive an IFFR Pro accreditation, granting them industry access to the festival and various networking opportunities.
"We welcome applications from all who are interested, regardless of their background," said Sanneke Huisman, writer, art critic, and curator who is part of the selection committee. "Diversity and inclusivity are key values that we uphold in this residency program."
The open call is now accepting submissions until September 29th, 2024. Interested artists are encouraged to submit their complete application, including a working title, artist portfolio, statement, visual support, budget proposal, work plan, and technical rider.
