The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) invites journalists from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to apply for its 2025 Media Outreach & Inclusion Scheme. The program offers press accreditation, travel support within the Netherlands, workshops, networking, and other festival benefits to emerging media professionals. Applications are open until December 8, 2024, to journalists who have not previously covered IFFR more than once.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has launched the third edition of its Media Outreach & Inclusion Scheme, inviting journalists and media makers from underrepresented communities to apply for an immersive experience at IFFR 2025. Known for its dedication to diversity, IFFR offers this initiative as part of its mission to amplify new perspectives within its film and media coverage.

The program targets journalists who identify as ethnically diverse, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women, non-binary individuals, and those with disabilities. By supporting these groups, IFFR aims to reduce barriers and increase representation in its press community. “A plurality of experiences and perspectives is what defines our festival,” the festival noted, emphasizing the role that diversity plays not only within the films showcased but also in the voices covering them.

Eligible applicants include media professionals from across the Netherlands, with the scheme particularly geared toward local and national participants. Journalists outside the Netherlands are welcome to apply, although the scheme does not cover international travel costs. To qualify, applicants must not have covered IFFR more than once previously and must not have participated in past editions of the Media Outreach & Inclusion Scheme.

Support for Selected Journalists

Selected participants will receive complimentary press accreditation, providing full access to screenings, industry sessions, and events at IFFR 2025, which runs from January 30 to February 9. A travel allowance for journalists based within the Netherlands is included, along with access to an expanded set of workshops led by industry experts.

IFFR has designed a comprehensive program for these journalists, incorporating networking and development opportunities such as press events, social gatherings, and workshops hosted by the IFFR Press Office and editorial staff. Participants will also be invited to key festival events like the Opening Night and Art Directions Walk. Content produced during the festival will be amplified on IFFR’s social media channels and newsletters, increasing exposure for participants’ work.

Application Requirements

Unlike traditional press accreditation, IFFR does not require applicants to have ties to an official media outlet. Instead, candidates are asked to submit examples of their previous work—whether articles, podcasts, or vlogs related to film or culture—alongside a CV and a one-page motivation letter. This letter should outline applicants’ interest in covering IFFR and how they believe the program can support their professional development.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, December 8, 2024, by 23:59 CET. To apply, please send your application to press@IFFR.com
