This experimental short focuses on a young woman grieving, as she descends into an obsessive tailspin becoming fixated on history and memory, and haunted by images from the past. Inspired by keening, a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead, director Laura Conlon employs poetic visuals and a fragmented editing style to depict her protagonist’s torment. Provocative imagery and rich textures accompany the film’s dense soundscape, which draws from recorded performances of an Irish keen alongside scripted dialogue and creates an atmosphere of both serenity and agitation.
