Contrasting the mythic and global reverence for women as goddesses with the brutal reality of witch hunts from the 15th through 18th centuries, Witch Madness gives a visual overview of the pervasive and irrational persecution women have had to face. Co-animated with her daughter Emily as a kind of modernist fairy-tale, Faith Hubley’s film also imagines an alternate vision of women as cherished creators.
