In this deceptively promethean short film shot in a foundry and a brickyard, the Ukrainian filmmaker describes the transformation of matter. Through a rigorous composition of shots that observe movements and attitudes in minute detail, Loznitsa powerfully captures the enslaving relationship that humans maintain with the world of machines.
