An owl sits on a branch in the forest at night. From its majestic perch, it observes its surroundings, just as we observe ours. A simple cinematic device that reminds us why we love to watch animals, and which crystallises the special role that Kelly Reichardt confers on them in her films - simply that of existing, nothing more, nothing less.
