Diamond Diplomacy

Diamond Diplomacy , a documentary by Yuriko Gamo Romer, explores the dramatic and complicated relationship between Japan and the United States through the shared love of the game of baseball. Beginning with the introduction of the sport to Japan in 1872 to the ubiquitous Japanese face of Ohtani Shohei today, a baseball story seems to accompany most major events of shared history. Babe Ruth, Lefty O’Doul, Joe DiMaggio, Suzuki Ichiro and Ohtani Shohei show up next to images of American presidents, Japanese politicians and a Crown Prince as well as Ambassadors from both countries.
