Animasyros International Animation Festival

Syros looked to the stars for the 18th Animasyros International Animation Festival, held from 22 to 28 September 2025. Its “Animated Cosmos” theme brought space-inspired films into a programme that also celebrated Bill Plympton, traced the history of Croatian animation and revisited the work of pioneering Greek animators. The official selection comprised 280 films from 50 countries, spanning seven competitive sections and a wide-ranging programme beyond the competitions. Gary Thomas of Animate Projects chaired the festival’s jury committee. Jan Saska’s Hurikán took the international Grand Prize, while audiences chose Hola Frida as their favourite feature. The Agora industry programme, workshops and a VR lounge gave filmmakers and visitors room to exchange ideas between screenings. At the Agora Pitching Forum, Aspasia Kazeli’s Coffee’s Fresh received music and sound services from MUSOU Music Group, while Panos Voulgaris’s series project Lafcadio Hearn Disappeared from the World earned a special mention backed by €1,500 from ERT.
