The Big Cartoon Festival is the largest annual animation festival in Russia. Since 2007, it has been introducing the Russian audience to the best examples of Russian and foreign animation. The Festival program includes screenings of full-length films, thematic programs of short animation for adults and children, meetings with leading artists and directors, and master classes on various animation techniques. Over the recent years, the Festival has been held in Moscow, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Khabarovsk, Norilsk, Togliatti and Lipetsk, and in July 2020 it was held online for the first time. In 2021, the festival celebrated its 15th anniversary.

The Big Cartoon Festival (BFM), Russia's leading animation event, will be held in Moscow cinemas from Oct 27 to Nov 7, with online programs from Nov 20 to 27, 2023. This year, 816 films from 79 countries were submitted, and 116 short films have been selected for competition. The festival promises to be a vibrant showcase of international and Russian animation talent, led by Program Director Dina Goder.
