Ottawa celebrated its 50th anniversary from 23 to 27 September 2026, bringing international animation to cinemas and galleries across the Canadian capital. Kohei Kadowaki’s We Are Aliens won the feature Grand Prize, while Joe Hsieh’s Praying Mantis took the top short-film award. Laurence Thérien’s clay-animated Ball Face collected four prizes, including the audience vote. The feature jury comprised Luc Chamberland, Lillian Chan and Alisi Telengut; Dave Cooper, Barry Doupé and Alexandra Myotte judged the shorts. Young viewers chose Tomoki Misato’s series Candy Caries for the Animation for Young Audiences 7+ award. In the anniversary retrospective 50 in 50, the festival team selected Richard Condie’s The Big Snit, while audiences favoured Terril Calder’s Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethics.
