Espinho hosted the 49th edition from 7 to 16 November 2025, with memory providing the thread between animation’s past and its possible futures. Tributes marked the centenaries of festival co-founder António Gaio and animation advocate Vasco Granja, while the new All Aboard competition opened a space for encounters between styles and generations. Cash prizes also returned after a hiatus. The international short-film jury — Agnė Adomėnė, Kaspar Jancis, Leonel Vieira, Lucija Mrzljak and Steve Woods — awarded the Grand Prix to Marta Reis Andrade’s Dog Alone. Heinrich Sabl’s Memory Hotel took the feature-film prize, Martin Bonnin’s Between the Gaps won the Gaston Roch student award, and Natalia León’s As if the Earth Had Swallowed Them Up became the first All Aboard winner. Alice Eça Guimarães’s Because Today Is Saturday won both the screenplay and audience awards.
